Business evolution in 100 years

The origins of La Industrial Algodonera (Liasa) go back to the end of the 19th century, from a woman, Amparo Cogul, great-grandmother of the current owners. Currently, the company has a turnover of five million euros.

The origins of La Industrial Algodonera (Liasa) date back to the end of the 19th century. Cabré recalls that Cogul belonged to a generation of women whose education focused on housework, but she claims that it was her entrepreneurial vision, management skills, and her perseverance that convinced her husband. and other partners to turn her initial housework into an industrial enterprise. “We know that the family already manufactured knitwear related to the order, such as stockings, socks and ties before 1900,” explains Cabré.

In a century of history, Liasa survived a war, three family crosses and successive crises in the textile industry. “In the family we have always overcome difficult moments with passion and sacrifice. They are key terms for success in family businesses because they are not experienced with such intensity in companies that are not, ”emphasizes the entrepreneur. The company, based in La Selva del Camp (Tarragona), currently has a turnover of five million euros and employs 70 people.

The fourth generation of the family saga runs the business with the production of cords, elastic cords, ribbons and polypropylene threads. Adapting to the market was one of the maxims of the company, which began with the manufacture of knitwear and then went on to sewing thread, tinder wicks, cords and later tapes for curtains, cords for clothing or packaging.

“We open two new articles every week and we have a million references,” explains Cabré. «At the end of the day, our specialization is individualization,» says the businessman, who points out that production has now gained speed and precision to work without stocks and with very short delivery times. We can assure you that Liasa has become one, if not the best, manufacturer of custom braided cord in as many products.

The last turn in the screw that Liasa gave the family business was the complete entry into the B2C business and the focus of its activities on the end user for the first time in a hundred years. The company launched the Liaflex brand with laces for children and young people who do not join and that it markets through its own online sales platform.
